Granta 110 app

Production credits: Granta
Launch date: 31 August 2010

Granta magazine has released its first iphone app inspired by their 110 Sex issue. The iPhone app includes exclusive memoir, video, photography and illustrations and features writing and illustrations from the 110 issue, including memoir by Mark Doty and drawings by Dave Eggers.

In ‘Soup and Kisses’, an app-exclusive piece translated from the German, Ingo Schulze recalls teenage romances. The app features advance publication from granta.com of ‘Memoirs of an Anonymous Phone Sex Worker’, and a starkly candid memoir of John Llewellyn Rhys prize-winner Evie Wyld’s wayward teenage years. Mark Doty’s heart-wrenching masked encounter is included from the print edition. The app is punctuated by three short films directed
by the Institute for Eyes in response to pieces by Roberto Bolaño, Dave Eggers and Mark Doty.

Other visual explorations of the theme include Dave Eggers’ illustrations of ‘Four Animals Contemplating Sex’ (already featured on The Literary Platform), Yann Faucher’s delicately evocative photo essay ‘Body’ and a video of Granta ’s covers from 1 to 110.
